FAQs

How long does it take to have a piece made?

As with most handmade items, it depends on the size and complexity of the design. Generally, you can expect each piece to take a week for design and construction. This timeline doubles for extra fine raffia which takes twice as long to crochet and is also more complex in its design. For items where I have to order in a particular colour of raffia, the timing is greatly affected by how long it takes to be delivered.

Can I choose my own colours?

Yes, of course! If you have a specific colour in mind, I will email to you an image of the tonal range available in that colour. Pre-payment of the entire piece is necessary in these situations where I have to buy your colour choice of raffia.

How do I clean paper raffia?

Paper raffia is a very strong material once crocheted, but it loses shape and strength when wet. Please be sure to spot clean gently with water, and to make sure the raffia dries thoroughly. Do not immerse in water. Do not dry with a hair dryer or tumble dryer. For bad stains, mix a paste of baking soda + white vinegar, leave it to dry and draw out the stain, and then brush away the paste powder. While sun-drying is the best method, please be aware that paper raffia fades from over-exposure to direct sunlight.

Do the frame chains come with a guarantee?

Frame chains have a one year guarantee for the attachment parts. Breakages will be replaced if you go through the optometry practice where it was purchased. They will assess the cause of the damage + forward it on to me for replacement should they see fit. Please be aware that replacement pieces may vary slightly from the original design, though I will always do my best to make them as similar as possible.

How do I look after my paper raffia frame chain?

To preserve the colour of the paper raffia, please keep it away from direct sunlight as much as possible. To maintain the longevity of the frame chain, please hold the metal base when stretching the elastic over frame arms. Do not pull on the beading nor the paper raffia, as this will cause the attachments to break. Please be aware that if you stretch the elastic over a wide frame arm, it will lose it’s elasticity over time.
